After a tree is felled to ground level, the stump may need to be removed. This process involves using a machine to grind the stump until the stump and roots are destroyed. The stump may also be treated to prevent re-growth. 

Removing a large tree in a restricted area requires the tree to be cut down in sections. When space allows, a tree can be felled in the traditional way, whereby precise cuts are made to control the direction of the fell.

Crown thinning involves removing inner branches in the crown region of a tree, allowing light to pass through naturally without altering the overall shape of the tree. 

The size of the canopy is reduced overall by removing branches evenly throughout the crown. This process also removes dangerous deadwood and crossing branches, reducing the chances of infection
